There is now an Integrated Traffic Calming and Speed Monitoring approach to speeding through the village. There are 4 parts to this policy:
1. Speed watch
We are now a team of 12, operating 2 speed guns over a 3 week period every 2 months or so. We share the equipment with Lidgate/Ousden and Gt Bradley. The recorded data is passed on to our SNT (Safer Neighbourhood Team) and then to Suffolk Constabulary. Those violating the speed limit can find themselves receiving a visit from the police.
2. VAS (Vehicle Activated Sign)
This sign went operational mid-March and the initial results are very interesting:
- There are 1200 to 1500 vehicles passing through the village daily.
- Speeding takes place at 5-6am, noon -3pm and 5-6pm.
- The highest speeds recorded were 50-55 mph on Rose Hill
3. Bin stickers
183 stickers have been sold! If you have bought some please do make sure long before bin collection day they are on stuck on the bins for display on collection day. It is suggested that the “30 mph Please Drive Carefully “stickers are stuck to the black and blue bins and the “Polite Notice Slow Down“ stickers are stuck to the brown bins. Stickers can be purchased at a cost of £3 for 6 and £2 for 4 (2 for each bin).
4. Traffic Calming Measures
These comprise dragon's teeth at the entrances to the village, roundels painted on the road, new 30 mph signs with yellow surround on the Horseheath Road entrance to the village and on 25th May a number of white gates are to be installed at a number of entrances.
